My Album Will Be The Biggest In Nigeria – Skales

Singer Skales, needs little or no introduction in and out of the music scene.

The ‘Temper‘ crooner, recently sat down for an interview with the Nigerian Tribune Newspaper, where he opened up on so many things to include his new album, relationship with Wizkid and international collaborations.

Read excerpts from the interview below:

Now that you seem to be back, what’s your plan to remain relevant?

Basically, I plan to put out more remarkable music; more smash hits my Naija fans would relatively love. I hope to achieve more greatness with this because frankly, that’s the only way I can stay relevant artiste.

From the look of things, you have successfully built your brand in such a way that the name Skales has remained very constant on the social space, how has it been?

It’s been a challenging journey, to be honest… there are bittersweet experiences; both negative and positive but at the end of the day, the fact that my fans pay attention and always have something to say about me in the social space is somewhat gratifying – it keeps me motivated.

You have also been quite silent but some people think it is down to your rebranding and your decision to focus more on music; what have you been up to lately?

I won’t say I’ve been quiet because I’ve actually been putting out new materials and presently, my single, ‘Temper’ is doing considerably well out there. I’m also working on my sophomore studio album, which is going to be bigger than anything the Nigerian music industry has ever seen or heard! I’ve put in a lot to ensure it’s not your average album; I’ve been working on it for over a year now, hence I believe it’s going to be mind-blowing; best believe! I’m also going on tour during the summer in the USA and Canada.

Music has paid off for you in a big way but would you say this momentum could be sustained for another 10 years, given the fact that most artistes these days don’t last a decade musically?

The good thing about music and I is that it’s more than just profit-making for me. I am really passionate about my craft – I don’t see myself quitting or retiring from what I love doing the most; music.

A lot is expected from you this year because of the way you ruled the airwaves in 2015 and a substantial part of 2016, what are your expectations of  the year?

I am quite confident I own this year because I am about to drop some bangers and one of the best albums in the country and Africa at large.

How would you rate your success in the industry now and do you really think you have pushed yourself enough?

Most definitely! In terms of success I have come a long way; from traveling around the world touring, to having very busy schedule; making money and signing huge endorsement deals with MTN. But truthfully, that’s only the tip of the iceberg because I’m just getting started!

It has been argued that when one reaches a certain level in the industry, it becomes practically impossible to release hit songs. Has this truly affected you?

First of all I will like to say that statement is really not true because only artiste that get too comfortable with what they have achieved so far end up being inconsistent and non-productive. But as long as you push yourself further and not be overly complacent your craft you will always remain relevant, hence making hits effortlessly.

You released a new song which featured Burna Boy and it has been banging everywhere. What’s the story behind the song?

Truth be told; the story behind the ‘Temper’ remix is quite an interesting one. I sent Burna the instrumental to record a verse and he changed the whole song. Also, the chemistry between him and I was instantaneous and strong; hence the success. We also had a direction for the song; as we intended it to be a street anthem which will resonate with everyone out there

Are we expecting an album from Skales this year?

Absolutely! My album is complete – presently, we are just adding finishing touches to it. So, to answer your question; yes an album is on the way and it promises to be classic!

Maybe an international collaboration is also on the cards? Or you don’t fancy such fad?

Yes, I got a couple of international collaborations which are on the way but they’re all on the album – I feel like that’s the easiest way to share our culture with other parts of the world. I really fancy the idea of international collaborations.

No matter what anybody thinks of Rapper Ice Prince , He has Already paid his dues (By Joe Heman)

No matter what anybody thinks of Rapper Ice Prince these days, the former Chocolate City artiste has paid his dues.

Read Below.

Recently, Ice Prince, real name Panshak Zamani had been slammed for his inability to churn out a hit song for a while now. The now boss of Super Cool Cats has been ridiculed on Twitter and even called an upcoming artiste.

Meanwhile the ‘Oleku’ crooner is unbothered, as he believes that he can only make music but God determines which song becomes a hit record. He made this opinion known in a quick chat with Sunday Scoop.

“My duty is to create music, but how far the music goes is not for me to decide. God did what He did for Ice Prince and He did what He did for the Nigerian music industry. Music evolves and if God blesses an artiste to make a song that has a huge impact, such a person shouldn’t claim he is responsible for the glory. It is God, not the artiste.

“I don’t know if you will ask 2Baba when he will release another African Queen or you will ask 9ice when he will make another Gongo Aso. Will you ask Olu Maintain when he is dropping another Yahooze. I made Oleku, and I have also done other great songs.”

Feel free to comment if you concur with Ice.

Nifty Breezy’s Reply To Zion Adebisi Blog Following His New Song GA LEMU – Read Here @Nifty_official

Earlier today, I made my intentions clear to Rapper Nifty Breezy about his new sound “GA LEMU” . I wanted to get more info explaining the song better to me and other listeners out there. And here is Nifty Breezy’s reply.

Enjoy below.

Note : It’s not like we are trying to criticize the idea and creativity behind this song, but we feel like we need some more info about this song and we are sure, alot of audience out there needs some more info to explain the song better.

GA LEMU INFO.

  • What inspired you to writing this song?

Answer : First of all, the song “Ga Lemu” is originally owned by the legendary Ibrahim Baba aka Funkiest Mallam. It’s a song I’ve always loved to vibe to. And I couldn’t resist the urge to Refix, what I’d say it’s one of the first trap songs in the industry.

  • What do you mean by “Inbamu ba, ka Suwa Yi shegu at 0:23 minute?” Lolz, Am sure we didn’t get the hausa perfectly but am sure you understand what am saying.

Answer : “In ba mu ba toh su waye neh sheigun” That’s “IF IT AIN’T US THEN WHO ELSE DOES IT BETTER”

Cos in Hausa Language the word “Shege” is often used to hype someone who’s good at something.. And “Sheigun” is the plural form of “Shege”

  • Are you directing this song to a particular person or a group of people? Or it’s just a song? Some of your lyrics are giving us that impression.

Answer : It ain’t directed to anyone, It’s a Rap.. Eulogy. For my fans to enjoy.

  •  Is it “Am not taking Panda or Banda?” At minute 1:02 of the track.  And please can you brief us about that particular line? Like explain it for us.

Answer : It’s a wordplay..Desiigner (The Panda Crooner)

So it’s “Am rocking designer.. am not talkin Panda..

  • What do you mean by “All you rappers wanna be like me but all I see is a Taper?” I hope we are correct with the hausa? Lolz.

Answer : All u rappers wanna be like me but all I see around is atampa (Atampa in Hausa means wrapper)

  • Am a bad man shata, Like mamai shata. Can you elaborate?

Answer : Using a Jamaican movie titled “The Shuttaz” to edify that line.. Am a bad man shutta..going legendary

Like mamman shata (A veteran Hausa musician)

  • You said in hausa, Take Matches and light it make we shata, I still don’t understand this shata thing but sorry to ask, Are you openly telling us you smoke?

Nah I don’t smoke but am talking dope yeah so let’s burn it. Lol

  • At minute 1:16, You said “I b the head, I never the bindi. Please what is Bindi NIFTY?

Answer : Bindi is tail in Hausa.. So I am the head and not the tail. Everyone wishes to always be the head. Lol.

  • Lolz. You know you a bad boy now right? My flow is the sweetest, Kamon ka na Pasa bindi abi is it Gindi? Let me know please Lolz.

Answer : Lol “My flow is the sweetest, kaman kana bisan gindi” The next line modifies the previous.. Which is “Gindin itace…itacen lemu”

It simply means my flow is as sweet as taking orange,  resting under the shade of the orange’s tree as well. Lol

  • And please, Which LEMU are you telling people to come and sha? I hope it’s not what am thinking? Lol.

Answer : Lol.. The LEMU we all know, the one that is good for the body. I got the source of the juice.. No extraction!

  • What is “flow Kamon tegu?”

Answer : It’s “Flow kaman teku”

“Teku” in Hausa means river.

So what that means is “Flow like river”

  • Who is Belinda in you life please? You mentions that at the last part of the song. Expose yourself lolz.

Answer : Hell no! lol.. You got that wrong.. It’s “Mirinda”

The Hausas especially the Fulanis often call Mirinda “Lemu” so in order to relate better..had to chip in MIRINDA!

Right now, I think I got the sauce and the juice better than Nifty.

It was fun with Nifty getting to know more about his new sound.

Trouble Dey Sleep Yanga Go Wake Am, You Already Woke The Trouble Your Self This Time Kiss Daniel – Read Here @iamkissdaniel

Kiss Daniel

All caught up in the “No Do” song by Kiss Daniel as I have been repeating the song since its release just as my parents have been repeatedly telling me to remember the home I came from.

The Song Awakens the ‘Fia‘ in me and made my fingers to “Manya” just Like Dat. I had to write out my Feelings.

Like I feel good vibing to the catchy instrumental by Philkeys and being attacked by Kiss Daniel’s with his catchy lyrics, my point here is that Kiss Daniels, you already woke up the trouble your self since you came out with this tune.

And I assure you, you will be behind bars for all this things you have done, LOL, Just kidding.

And yes, following the slave trade in Libia. I think they all need to listen to this song as it will really hit a spot in their life where they will definitely reason, little said is enough.

And I keep asking why didn’t Kiss Daniel drop this song earlier? I believe this song would have picked at least one MOBO Award for him and we all will be congratulating him. I know Kiss Daniel has his own planning, so am only stating my opinion.

“Pe Pe ri Pe, Pe Pe ri Pe Pe, No go dey do pass yourself” has injected me with a melodic fever. And actually the “No go dey do pass your self” is something a lot of people can relate to and positively, it will motivate and give a lot of heart out there a very good and well behaved status in the remaining part of this year.

“Money no dey today, money go dey tomorrow”

And that’s how that line has saved a soul from over thinking his/her life to pulp. O YEA, IT GAVE ME A GOOD IMPRESSION.

Dj put some high tempo on this and song is not just a club banger but the bomb.

And till rain starts falling next year, this song will continue to hit up clubs to clubs and publish something interesting into some one’s heart.

It’s a good one from Kiss Daniel and we are waiting for more. Continue the good work sir.

What Ever You Think About The CrocCity Raised Me Theme Song By Croccitymag is being done on purpose.

Croccity raised me

If you are reading this post, then I assume you are aware about what is going on social media following the release of CrocCity Raised Me Theme Song which was executed by CrocCity mag.

O yea, you definitely heard the song and except you don’t wanna say the truth, your opinion towards the song is not really different from mine.

Although there’s this saying “Every work needs to be applauded” and I’d like to say nice job, keep it up.

But on the other side truth be told, The theme song earlier released by CrocCity mag really set the Kaduna entertainment industry way down, giving a lot “If not every listeners” a bad impression about the Kaduna entertainment industry.

As a matter of fact, This song is the worst song to shoot out of Croccity this year.

Come to think of it, this is a song that was suppose to present us to the world, as it was featured on one of 9ja top blog/websites TooXclusive.com.

From the production of the song which was awful to the delivery of every artist featured in it where as they all sounded like it was their first project.

Attitude very poor, damn my ears bleeds.

I am really disappointed, we all are.

Have you no good ears to listen to what you produced and rate yourself?

Have you not a team or group of friends who could help review the song if it meets standard before promoting such?

Let me say this, I would also give part of the blame to TooXclusive.com.

They are a very well known brand, they should know better.

They should know what to promote and what not to promote.

The should maintain a good name.

The money was more important to them where as it was not supposed to be so.

They stated in their contact us page saying

“Unfortunately we cant just promote anyone, all artists that send in materials  go through a strict approval process where some of our team reviews your lyrics, vocals and quality. Its those factors that decide whether we promote you or not. If you are disapproved this doesn’t mean your not good enough, its just we feel that your work needs improvement before we can promote you”

The didn’t keep true to their words, they picked money over good name.

A lot of listeners are out there giving their opinions about the song, most of the comments I read are all negative talks because the song itself is negative.

The said the best acts were featured in the theme song.

If they are the best why is the song not even for once acceptable by listeners out there?

The then titled the song “CrocCity Raised Me” Hell No!!!

It’s not the same CrocCity who raised Skales, Terry da Rap man that is raising you.

And the most painful part is that Croccity mag is not even affected by all the critics out there as it is giving them/he/she unending joy.

Feeling like He/she/they are trending.

It just seems they did this on purpose.

I wrote this with pain and tears in my eyes.

I feel disappointed.

CrocCity never raised you, You raised yourself.

If am to give my rating from 1-10

I’ll rate this 0.5.

Am sure you must have heard the song Eko Lon Pebi by Skippo
We know the song Eko Lon Pebi by Skippo is known to be the very anthem of Lagos state and beyond.

Singer Oritsefemi joined the movement not a long time ago in his dance vibe “Bodija”

He mentioned or should I say used some of the lines in Skippo’s Hit song Eko Lon Pebi.

Yes you read it right, Skippo is the brain to that hit song Eko Lon Pebi.

Eko lon pebi, Iha In Na Lagos (which means this is Lagos)  , those are part of the most recognized words in the original song by Skippo.

Now Oritsefemi Femi picked it up, I’ll assume he really enjoyed the original song by rapper/singer Skippo and he just couldn’t keep calm but had to use those lines in his new song “Bodija”

For the record, once you create that unique vibe, It is bound to take over the lips of every listeners, audience, fans and competitors.

Are you yet to listen to Eko Lon Pebi by Skippo?

Crocity Top Artiste

Following the break through most of CrocCity promising artistes had in 2017, without doubts they wouldn’t want to take a chill pill 2018 as I believe they are Hard Working and grace speaks for them, there are high hopes that they will have a major breakthrough this 2018 musical calendar.

Did your fave make the coveted cut? Check out the artistes that should be on your radar and familiarize yourself with them!

Nifty

This banker had an extremely impressive 2017 following his Nexpectation EP which got him too much Juice and Sauce, and then he Crowned 2017 up with a refix of GA LEMU originally owned by Ibrahim Baba Aka Funkiest Mallard.

Nifty Breezy is one to watch out for this year.

DOWNLOAD GA LEMU

Yung Millz

The throne of Dance hall music in Kaduna would have been empty if Yung Millz wasn’t doing a great job.

This banker is working very hard to ensure that he wears a huge crown this year.

In 2017, Millz surfaced with “Never Never” which was produced by one of Kaduna most talented producer Sukeezbeatz, Millz has not rested ever since. I believe he was the most featured artist in Kaduna in the year 2017 and he has been on countless events.

Yung Millz is also armed with looks which is getting a lot of attention to him, though he has this massive good looking sweetheart said to be his Girlfriend. I’ll say no more.

DOWNLOAD NEVER NEVER

IBI

What this guy does really put me in the state of positive reasonings. I see him as a young man filled with a lot of joy, smile and motivational drives.

IBI gave us good songs 2017, the likes of Karya Ne,A Samu Ko A Pasa, and then he also featured on a lot of songs in 2017.

I believe he has been on the scene for some while now, but you should know the Gig, Education first before anything. Now he’s done and we are already getting a lot from him.

His hard work in 2017 instantly made him a contender for 2018.

DOWNLOAD KARYA NE

Dj Cinch

The sound of Dj Cinch should ring a bell right?

Dj Cinch has been grinding long before he got his breakthrough.

2017 was his year, he gave us songs like ZoUban SuKd Boi 4Life, where he featured IBI, DIA and BBk, He gave us a Wo cover to Olamide’s hit song Wo, and that was his breakthrough.

There’s no show that Dj Cinch wasn’t invited, he shut down every shows back to back with his Wo Cover, He was the most trending artist in Kaduna in the year 2017 and I believe this year he would work hard not to loose that Prestige.

DOWNLOAD WO COVER BY DJ CINCH

Shawn Wonder

Shawn Wonder is that artiste who delivers a record that will prove he has the X-factor. He has shown countless flashes of brilliance, also a little artistic development especially in the performance department which I believe would win him tons of points.

Shawn Wonder gave us good and quality sounds in 2017, this list cannot go down without his name included.

He made hit songs like Tease me and then Bend Over, production credits goes to Burning Soundz, Emmystrings, Crespin Beats.

Kayyswaggz

She Got MeNonStop, they were all arguable great force by Kayyswaggz.

Producers like Csbitz, Fizzyo are part of the magical fingers to his classic sounds.

SoundBoy Chiif

SoundBoy Chiif is one embodiment of talent. He’s one of Kaduna best Sound engineer, though he always made his self anonymous in every song he contributed effortlessly to.

Am sure you must have heard the Song Hold Some’N featuring DjCinch? Soundboy Chiif is the brain behind Hold Some’N, the song featured Kaduna most trending artiste 2017 Dj Cinch where he did worthy justice to it.

The song was produced by ZionzBeatz mixed and mastered by Soundboy Chiif.

Though SoundBoy Chiif is a new kid in the block, but it can’t be argued that Hold Some’N wasn’t a hit late 2017.

Fame Management 101 Based On Facts And Figures By Joe Heman

$

Fame will find you. Build content first, package second.

“2face isn’t famous just because he is just ‘humble’ and his name is ‘innocent’. He is famous because he has proven to be an ace musician. He is an ace musician because he is hardworking, consistent and persistent. He is constantly working on improving his music, especially his content and delivery”

Seeking fame before building your music content is like putting the cart before the horse. And with this kind of arrangement, there is no progress. The horse will pull the cart backwards. Your early search for fame will pull your career backwards. So, learn to put first things first.

Fame will find you, but first you need to understand that you are in the entertainment business. You are into music so as to entertain or at least you are giving your gift of –singing, rapping- to people. Hence you are giving first, and if they like what they hear and see, they’ll pay you attention. It’s not magic – it’s reciprocity.

You can try to force your way to the forefront with aggressive publicity but you might probably not last long because your offering does not hold water.

You have to pay attention to details especially in your days of small beginning when you are not much known. You’ve got to have something to offer. Something different and unique or something better than what existing music acts are currently offering.

As an upcoming act, you should really care about your sound, your music, before any other. You should always be thinking and working on ways to make better music, how to serve it to your fans, and how to communicate YOU (your image).

If you must publicize, it has to be something that corresponds with the growth of your career. It must flow with the plan on ground. You don’t have to be on every kind of ‘show’ trying to make yourself visible especially when you don’t have your music out there. Of course, except you are at this place hustling for sponsors that will help push your career forward and not for the VIP section trying hard to rub shoulders with readymade celebs.

Build Content First

Ask:

What’ new? What’s hot? How can I make what’s hot, hotter?

Listen to your tracks. Would you dance to your songs if you weren’t the one who did them? Would you buy them?

What’s your message?

What’s your sound?

Ask: What do I want to be known for?

Try to find a producer you are comfortable with and work with him/her. And if you have your music ready, do all you can afford to get your music out there. Make it available to the music loving public.

Package Second

Package is like what clothing does for the body-the body being YOU and your music. YOU as a music brand have to come in a wrapper- in an attractive wrapper that will get to your target listeners if you have identified yours. You can be deliberate about your packaging or you could just work on being presentable and acceptable. Note that the Nigerian music industry is becoming more sophisticated than ever so you had better start planning how you want to present ‘you’ to the general public. Packaging isn’t just about how you look but also about how you present YOU and your music.

Package is second because just like you need to wrap the wrapper round a gift, you need to package your gift of ‘new music’ to us.

For those upcoming acts who are always striving to be around celebrities especially just to feel among or to be recognized by them. You need to answer these questions:

Are you in the music business just to tag along celebrities?

Who would buy your music? Follow you on twitter? Celebs or fans?

You should be gathering fans and not celebrity friends just yet. You should be building ‘you’ a fanbase. You know what? Celebs will appreciate you more when they see or hear about your works- your good music. They’ll ask of you, come for you and want you to hang out with them. They would even do music with you.

So set your priorities right.

If you were more business like, you should even have it at the back of your mind that they are your competitors. Your aim is to get to the top. Your being at the top might have to mean taking the spot of an existing music celeb who isn’t serving it anymore (like we’ve never seen that happen). So stop tagging unnecessarily the poor celebs that are on the internet to push their music too. Stop following them around in the club or at shows with your demo CDs (of course, unless he is recruiting) later to claim he /she stole your song/lyric/line or whatever.

Lastly, don’t forget that your music can put your name on every lip. Your music could start ‘you’ fame. Meanwhile, your consistent and excellent delivery could make it a lasting one.

You, just know what you are doing.

You will succeed.

Following the reactions that his recently released song, “Science Student,” has sparked; Olamide has made a counter-reaction on Instagram. The musician took to Instagram to correct the notion that his songs promote and encourage the use of drug and other numbing substances. The artiste has been accused of eulogizing and publicizing drugs and other illicit substances, most recently by former Edo State gubernatorial aspirant Pedro Obaseki but Olamide is saying otherwise in his Instagram post.

See post below.

Since the release of #ScienceStudent, the support has been massive. As you are all sharing, dancing, singing along to this relatable music of mine, I want you all to take some time to reflect on the subject, say no to drug abuse. Don’t abuse alcohol. stop mixing what you don’t know about. Live responsibly and drink responsibly. Don’t aspire the ‘highness state’ but a state of purpose fulfillment and passion discovery. Together let’s put an end to drug abuse and save as many lives as possible. The video will be out soon and I can’t wait for you all to see it. #SayNoToDrugAbuse #DrinkResponsibly #ScienceStudent

Fast Rising CrocCity Music Artiste To Watch Out For 2018

Year 2017 was a great year no doubt, 2018 would be better.

And of course, Music stars were born in 2017; and I believe several numbers of talents were also displayed enough to change the game in 2018.

So I compiled a list of promising acts I believe will have a major breakthrough in CrocCity this 2018 musical calendar.

Did your fave make the coveted cut? Check out the artistes that should be on your radar and familiarize yourself with them!

But before then, I’d love to give some advice before we head to the list.

The fact you are on the list, I believe it means a lot to you, but I’ll let you up on Some’N you should know.

Should you just sit down without hard work this 2018, then there’s nothing for you even if you made wave 2017. You need to work hard to keep that spot.

You need to keep working on your craft, work tirelessly, Listen to people who you look forward to, who motivates you, learn from them and work with good producers around the state.

There are very good producers here in Kaduna.

The likes of Burning Soundz, Emmystrings Efiko, ZionzBeatz, Fizzyo, Jessebeatz, Sukeezbeatz and lots more.

Promote Your craft massively.

I don’t mean free promotion because you will be the only one promoting your content, I mean paid promotion, Pay for it, let people promote you.

There are very good bloggers/promoters in Kaduna that’s if Kaduna is where you are targeting, and if your audience are in Kaduna. You might want to target audience outside the state, why not? It’s allowed.

Tell your bloggers/promoters what you want and watch them get it done.

Music is a business, spend, sacrifice and you will definitely enjoy the outcome if you do it right.

If you don’t run a well strategic promotion, only your friends will keep supporting you, no external force will chant you name.

List of bloggers / Promoters here in Kaduna

Krockcitydegreez.comAmeboloaded.comArewaallstarsMadeinkrockcity.com and lots more.

You also need to be active and work on your social media handles.

Lets use rapper IBI as an example, he’s one you all need to look up to, he works on his social media accounts time to time, he does several sponsored promotions on his account, and that’s why his career is going well for him.

He also have various teams he works with.

You also need to brand your self well, wear good things both home, shows or else where.

Take good promotional photos, it’s helps.

Give your self a standard. You can seek advice from me directly or people you look up to that’s if you don’t mind.

USE Instagram / Twitter a lot just well as you use Facebook.

Do quality artworks for your new song, album etc. Contact good graphic designers based at Kaduna.

Promote Your songs on radio stations. Run online and offline promotions.

It increase you online / offline presence.

A lot said, let’s get to business.

Based On Facts, Why The Nigerian Music Industry Might Not Deserve A Talent Like Burna Boy By @ibironketweets

Please note : I didn’t write this content. I only feel I should also share this because I agree to this.

Is Burna Boy talented?

Asking this question feels like crossing a river to get water. It’s a fact that we all know; even the spirikokos, if it were a heaven or hell type of question, would acknowledge that Burna Boy’s music stands out from the ordinary.

So instead, I put up an opinion poll on the TooXclusive website asking what feels like a more engaging question – “Burna Boy or Wizkid…Who Is More Talented?’

Even I that asked the question had to do a double take to be sure that it is Nigerians and not aliens that are actually acknowledging the abundance of Burna Boy’s talent, even to the point of rating him ahead of the can-do-no-wrong Wizkid on the scale of talent deposit. Wonders will never cease o, so Naija people know just how amazing the guy called Burna is, but they’d still not come all out for him like they do for the likes of Wiz and Davido.

So why is he so slept on, or is it a thing of character? I wouldn’t know for sure but I need no one to tell me that walking out of award ceremonies and sponsoring a robbery attack on another singer aren’t exactly reports that endear you to the fans. These are some of the acts that has soiled Burna Boy’s name overtime and maybe it explains why his music suffers in the area of listenership.  But the ‘bad boy’ rep cannot be the reason his following doesn’t match the size of his talent. Some of the artistes we even refer to as A-listers, the ones with bulky following, have their fair share of controversies and wahala too.

Burna Boy, they say, is a hot spur whose hyper-masculinity causes his abundant talent go to waste, but really, a lot of his troubles are mere consequences of his nonconformist character. Take a look at the incident at the 2013 Headies award ceremony where he walked out of the hall after losing the Next Rated award, which is supposed to be our crystal-gazing at the future star, to Sean Tizzle. Burna Boy got the labels, ‘proud’, ‘arrogant’ and all sort of words that I can’t even write but fast forward to 2018 and you’d wonder if it was Akure weed or ogidiga that blurred people’s vision from seeing that Burna Boy had a strong point.

I mean, despite all the ‘trouble making’ and even with the tough battle of self, Burna Boy has kept his music output fresh and chilling. Usually, his materials come forth with all shades of brilliance. Ask your favourite artiste, if he/she would like a Burna Boy verse and you are sure to get a “hell yeah” and an excited look from him/her. I mean – that Burna Boy’s talent qualifies him to be in the class of the industry favourites, is as plain as the nose on your face. If it were a place where genre diversification is appreciated and out-of-box thinking was rewarded, Burna Boy would probably be the one enjoying the rave Wizkid is enjoying in Nigeria, today.

Our guilt isn’t far away and that’s why we always have to answer questions on whether he is underrated or unappreciated.

Burna Boy just does not make the kind of music we appreciate around here. His music isn’t what seems to have become the unofficial ‘Nigerian sound’ -Afro Pop music, and he is not interested in bending over or diluting his sound for the sake of penetration – it’s not in the character of nonconformists like him.

Why do we not rate him well when the polls show that Nigerians agree he is more talented than their most celebrated artiste? – what’s his sin? The measure of objectivity in the poll result alludes to the point that Oluwa Burna is unmatched talent-wise and he makes commendable effort to put out material but he doesn’t offer what most of us want so we move on to the suppliers of our needs.

It’s almost a case of meeting a trader who is so serious and conscious about selling a well packaged Mathematics textbook to you, when what you need is a novel. Naturally, you’d move on to another trader who might even be uncaring, rude or arrogant with his/her approach but as long as he/she sells the exact thing you visited the market for, you’d shabring money out and pay. It is an unfortunate twist that sees a lot of fans say ‘oh Burna Boy is good,’ ‘he is amazing’ and all but their playlist shows betrayal.

It’s a not-ideal relationship, it’s an unfair one in which one party is giving but the other is not interested in taking, leaving all the beta beta offerings to fall to earth – such a shame!

Between Davido And Wizkid, Who Made More Hit Chain In 2017?

$

Like seriously, If am to make my pick, Davido Made More Hit Chain Than Wizkid In 2017.

Davido - Wizkid

2017 was a super year for both music stars Davido And Wizkid. The two stars made several hits back to back in the year 2017. We all knew they had their own issues also that year but they later reconciled

Davido gave us If, Fall, Fia.

Wizkid gave us Medicine, Come Closer ft. Drake, his album “Sound from the other side was epic” no doubt.

But if we are to talk about the rate at which these songs from both stars raved, how much fans and music lovers talked about and played these songs, the online and offline presence of these songs, Davido songs If, Fall, Fia were very recognized song in 2017 compared to Wizkid’s songs, i’ll also like to take you back to the fact that Davido’s songs If, Fall were one of the most searched words on Google last year. Yea, you surprised?

I also did well to dig more by asking people’s opinions. You wont believe i received insults from some of them who i asked this question. A playful insult though lol.

Truth is that music lovers, fans, friends were all on Davido’s side.

The DMW boss owned 2017, his sounds paved way for him and not just him but his team mates, the likes of Mayorkun, Dremo etc.

The DMW team took several awards home last year 2017.

Enough of Davido and the DMW team, Wizkid, he really did a very good job last year taking Afro sound international, and he is still doing perfectly Ok.

My joy and more reason i respect Starboy is that featured International Arts like Major Lazer, Drake, Chris Brown, Ty Dollar Sign and Trey Songz, even at that he also got featured by well recognized International arts, and this has gotten him a whole level of recognition.

Wizkid is King, but i think Davido killed 2017.

I mean, think about it, Drake felt the juice Wizkid always brings in every of his sounds and couldn’t resist it, and then he made a global sound with our very own Nigerian Star Boy which gave birth to “Hush Up The Silence”

Well this article also needs your contributions, so i will give space for contributions. Please tell us what you think in the comment box below.

Opinion Box : Is Music The New Oil Money?

$

Wizkid

Yea, I know the title is a bit confusing, and no this is not a click bait. I am genuinely asking cos I need an answer.

So let’s discuss.

Way back when (and still present in a way,) oil money was the legal way forward to ‘ball.’ Once anyone hears you are working in an Oil&Gas company, all they think of is the number of extra zeroes in your bank account, your house in Lekki or Banana Island or any high-end place, your fleet of cars, and your ability to afford things – to a degree – that regular workers can’t. All these things are basically true as oil is the major source of income in Nigeria for many years (except Obasanjo’s tenure because he used agriculture instead), which is why many people have been scuffling and are still doing so trying to work in an oil company.

On the other side of the ring, we have music. Yes, we know music is a business – a thriving business, – and there are millions of musicians fighting to make it in a very crowded career space. For years (pre-digital distribution), musicians had to sweat their lives away to afford to buy land and build a bungalow in a normal area (with FESTAC being the go-to area for many), and many A-list artists then living in a rented apartment. Thanks to digital distribution and online streaming, musicians have been able to double and even triple their income like never before.

However, the rate at which they are beginning to afford the expensive things is quite amazing and alarming, which is why I am asking; is music the new oil money?

You see people who have spent barely three years in the industry like Kiss Daniels, Mayorkun, Reekado Banks, etc., buying the type of houses and cars that will make one’s jaw drop. Kiss Daniels even recently got two houses on the island which will be worth nothing less than 300 million combined. Feeding off the success of ‘Mad Over You,’ Runtown got himself a Lamborghini and then bought another one later after his first was pictured to have allegedly broken down on the streets of Lagos. Phyno got himself a Rolls Royce, D’Banj just moved into a 7-bedroom penthouse, other musicians are buying Bentleys and high-end cars, and many, many other examples like that.

Is it really music that’s funding all these things? A Lamborghini and a Rolls Royce costs at least N150 million… now add a house to that, the clothes and what-have-you, and an artist will be spending roughly N700 million – N1 billion annually. Even Davido claims to have N30 billion for d askant e.

With the singles, albums, royalties and shows, an artist will do all year, it seems off for one to actually make up to N700m – N1bn in a year, talk less of being able to spend that amount.

Okay, let me factor the business minds of artists like Don Jazzy, P-Square, D’Banj, Rugged Man and co. the other artists who, as far as we can tell, have music as their only source of income are the ones affording these luxurious amenities and tech. Before you say I’m doing bad belle, I am not o. I am genuinely happy they are able to afford such. I’m only wondering if the music is actually that lucrative cos there are a whole lot of musicians out there who are just as hardworking and talented but are barely making enough to even afford the basic amenities, talkless of splurging once in a while.

Oh, by the way, I am in no way looking towards Yahoo-Yahoo money or those that make money illegally.

Right now, musicians are even affording things that those in Oil&Gas can’t afford. I mean, it seems Range Rover Sport is the car for those who have oil money, and the cost of one is like one-quarter the price of a Lamborghini.

Can you see why I’m asking that question now? Please if you have the answer, abeg tell me in the comment section below.

7 Artiste You Should Feature If You Want Your Song To Be A Hit

Wizkid

Source Vibe.ng.

When it comes to featuring artistes on your track, odikwa very risky because that artist can either make your song sweeter, break your song, or totally overshadow your own performance.

However, there are a few artistes who are known to always put in work and so far, have a 100% success rate of making your song better with them on it. Below are 7 artistes you should feature on your track if you want it to be a sweet, sweet jam.

Wizkid

This goes without saying as ever since his appearance on M.I’s “Fast Money, Fast Cars” and then his own debut album “Superstar,” the following years after were literally dubbed ‘The Year of Wizkid’ because over 20 artistes featured him and as you would have guessed, the songs were all smash hits. Since then, our own starboy has become one of the most featured and highly sought after acts to feature on a track. I mean, even Drake and Beyonce did a collabo with him.

Davido

As with his greatest rival, Davido is also another highly sought after artiste that everyone wants to feature. Although he doesn’t have as many features as Wizkid (which may be due in part to the rumour that he doesn’t charge for features but agrees to collabo only if a video for the song will be made), he is still one of the best act to feature basically because of the energy he brings to the song. Mafikazolo and other acts that have featured him are all proof of Davido’s prowess.

Tiwa Savage

Amazing vocals, soft, soothing, and still getting the adrenaline rushing to your brain. Those are the effect you get when you feature Tiwa Savage on your song. And it’s only fair, especially when she used to do vocals for Mary J Blige, Kelly Clarkson and many other world-renowned artistes. Her ability to fit into any song is what gets me the most and she makes it seem effortless. Her verses in Reekado Banks’ “Like” and Korede Bello’s “Romantic” were by far my fav.

M.I

It goes without saying that he is the rapper everyone would rather have on their song. M.I’s ability to go all out on your track is something that has kept him number 1 in the industry for years. In Phyno’s “Link Up”, M.I proved that he could do it all; rap fast or slow as the tempo dictates. His verses in songs like “Overkilling”, “Nobody Test Me”, and many others are still fan-favourites.

Phyno x Olamide

Yea, I know I put them together but that’s only because they feature themselves a lot and we absolutely love them. The bring the same effect to any song they are featured in; an indigenous vibe that every tribe and race can vibe. And anytime they feature themselves, their songs are nothing short of awesome!!!

Brymo

The music maestro has proven in just a couple of features that he is one artiste that everyone should better do a collabo with. He has this amazing ability to hook you with his voice. I don’t think I have ever skipped a song I heard Brymo singing in, and a lot of people attested to the fact that they also don’t skip. Hearing his voice on Ice Prince’s “Oleku” and M.I’s “Action Film” was probably what got everyone hooked on those two songs in the first place.

Don Jazzy

This may surprise many of you, but Don Jazzy is actually one artiste that I strongly believe everyone should feature. Coupled with the fact that he does vocals for every song he produces, he is also one artiste (producer) that has proven time and time again how great he is at singing, even though he doesn’t want to give us an album. Songs like “Eminado”, “Skelemba”, “Pere” (Mo’Hits version) and other songs he has a verse on are enough proof, right?

Do you agree with the list or do you think there’s an artist that should be removed/put on the list? Tell me what you think in the comment section below.

Worthy Mentions.

Falz

Tekno

Burna Boy
